If you are a recipient of the South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant and need to change your cellphone number, you can do so online. There are two ways to change your cellphone number on the SRD Grant: through the SASSA SRD grant status check page or through an emailed request to SASSA. To change your cellphone number through the SASSA SRD grant status check page, follow these steps:
- Visit the SASSA SRD grant status check page at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact.
- Enter your South African ID number (without any spaces) and your SRD Grant application ID.
- Click the “Submit” button.
- Enter your email address and new cellphone number.
- Click the “Submit” button.
- Select the reason you would like to change your cellphone number on your SRD grant.
- You will receive an OTP (one-time password) to your new cellphone number – enter the OTP you received.
- Click the “Submit” button.
If you are unable to utilize the SASSA SRD online portal, you can email SASSA to request a phone number change. To change your cellphone number through an emailed request to SASSA, follow these steps:
- Write an email requesting a phone number change to [email protected].
- Use your full name, ID number, and application ID (if available) in the request.
- Clearly specify the new cellphone number you want to be updated in their system.
- Explain briefly why you need to change the number.
- SASSA will send a one-time password code via SMS text to your new number.
- Reply to the email with the OTP code.
- SASSA will confirm the change and update your cellphone number.
It is important to keep your contact information up-to-date with SASSA to ensure you do not miss any communication from them and receive your grant payment.
